Because of his cuteness and versatility in meme creation, Baby Yoda took off in popularity in late 2019. The Disney Plus show, The Mandalorian depicts a creature that is aged 50 and looks like a younger version of Yoda from Star Wars hence the name Baby Yoda.

There’s the Yoda drinking soup meme. People have photoshopped coffee mugs and other drinks to depict their “drinking addictions”. For example, someone photoshopped a Dunkin Donuts iced coffee and put the caption “Me when it’s 32 degrees outside”.

The Baby Yoda meme got so popular that merchandise (stuffed animals, T-shirts, and more) got released on to the market for kids and adults who enjoy the lovely little green alien that much to want to bring him into their home.

2. Storm Area 51

The Storm Area 51 meme had to be the most bizarre of 2019. Shitposting cuz im in shambles,” “Smyleekun” and “The Hidden Sound” were the three individuals that created the iconic Facebook event called Storm Area 51. It was to occur on September 20, 2019 at 3am. The event description read to meet up at the Alien Center tourist attraction in Lincoln County, Nevada. It went on to describe that if the attendees ran like characters in Naruto that everyone could outrun the aliens.

Over 1.8 million people had RSVP’d for the event. This is crazy considering it was satirical event. Supplemental memes about Area 51 circulated the Internet leading up to the time of the “event.”

3. Shaggy’s “Are You Challenging Me?”

It’s the famous quote in the live-action 2002 movie, Scooby-Doo where Shaggy asks Scooby if he is challenging him. This meme did not gain popularity until after the Ultra Instinct Shaggy memes and the Shaggy’s Power memes were popularized in January 2019.

What makes this meme so popular is it is paired with anything controversial or funny along with the still picture of the scene and caption of the quote.

For example, one reads “Does nothing; Wasp:” and then the picture and quote below. There’s another one that says, “Nobody: Drunk Marine:” then the picture and quote underneath of it.

4. Bottle Cap Challenge

Popularized in June 2019 when Jason Staham, Mariah Carey, Justin Bieber, Max Halloway and other celebrities tried it, the Bottle Cap Challenge took off because of an Instagram post. Farabi Davletchin is a Taekwondo instructor who posted an Instagram video showing different ways on how to kick a bottle cap off a bottle.

Before you knew it, everyone was trying it out once viral videos circulated of many celebrities successfully tackling the challenge. Have you tried it yet?

5. Woman Yelling at a Cat

What do you get when pair a yelling Taylor Armstrong from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills with a white cat named smudge? You get the Woman Yelling at a Cat meme created by @missingegirl on Twitter.

Ever since that post in May 2019, this has become a popular meme in arguing over stupid subjects because the side by side photos of Armstrong and Smudge are just so iconic. It looks like they’re truly arguing. It’s so meme worthy because you can caption almost any argument to it.
